Lifetime Of Kong Devices

INTRODUCTION

Device lifetime indications are defined by KONG S.p.A. in accordance with the requirements of EU Regulation 2016/425. The lifetime is determined considering the type of materials, the device structure and its intended use.

The following conditions, however, significantly reduce the lifetime of a device:

• Incorrect use, intensive use or use in aggressive environments (saline, extreme temperatures, in contact with chemicals)
• Storage under conditions other than those defined in the manufacturer's information
• Reduced or lack of maintenance

The following table summarizes the maximum lifetime of the various types of devices/equipment:

To learn about procedures for the proper storage of each device, refer to the information note provided by the manufacturer. Below, some insights into the types of materials and intended use of the devices.

METAL

The lifetime is unlimited except for reasons that put it out of service. After the first use, evaluating the wear and fatigue incurred by the device is sometimes difficult. Therefore, it must be the user, first of all, who objectively assesses the severity of use and reports it to those who will carry out the periodic inspection. The lifetime is always subject to the successful completion of pre- and post-use checks and periodic inspection. Periodic inspection must be performed by a competent person, trained and authorized by Kong S.p.A., at least every 12 months from the date of first use.

PLASTIC AND TEXTILE

Even if unused, they can deteriorate over time and the original performance may no longer be achieved. A maximum lifespan of 10 years from the date of first use is assigned. A maximum of 2 years of proper storage before first use should be added. The date of manufacture can be determined from the specific label attached to, or contained in, the device. Some devices made with special materials may have shorter lifespans, such as: composites, resins, HDPE, Polypropylene, Aramid. This information is normally contained in the instructions and information supplied by the manufacturer, or it is marked on the device itself. The lifetime is always subject to successful pre- and post-use checks and periodic inspection. Periodic inspection must be performed by a competent person, trained and authorized by Kong S.p.A., at least every 12 months from the date of first use.

COMPLEX EQUIPMENT

These are devices and equipment with a complex design. Functionality and performance depend on multiple components, and it is not possible to define lifespan, in a general way, based on the materials from which they are made. Specific planned uses for this type of products, in some cases, require special rules. The lifespan of these devices is therefore defined in the individual instructions and information provided by the manufacturer and is also indicated on the relevant webpage (official website www.kong.it) of each product. The lifetime is subject to successful pre- and post-use checks and periodic inspection. Periodic inspection must be performed by a competent person, trained and authorized by Kong S.p.A., at least every 12 months from the date of first use. Some of this equipment can be serviced. Servicing may become necessary as a result of checks or inspections resulting in failure. Products that can be serviced have a specific indication on the Kong website (see logo below). Servicing shall be carried out by Kong S.p.A. or by authorized servicing centers.
